Olena Cherniavska, 68 years old

Olena Hryhorivna lives in the city of Ternopil. Her life has been filled with great losses and trials. Thirty years ago, her husband died tragically, leaving her alone with a little daughter. She dedicated all her strength to raising her, working for more than 40 years as a pharmacist, though earning only a minimal salary. Yet another tragedy struck seven years ago when her daughter passed away prematurely, leaving behind two children.

Today, Olena fully cares for her 11-year-old grandson. The boy has no father, so his grandmother is both mother and father to him. She looks after his food, schooling, and clothing, trying to give him everything he needs to grow. Despite serious health issues — cataract in one eye and no money for treatment — Olena keeps fighting and believing in a brighter future. Her heart is filled with love for her grandson and unwavering faith that God will help her walk this difficult path.
